Prime Minister of Malaysia YAB Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim Visits Markaz

Kozhikode: Prime Minister of Malaysia YAB Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim visited the Markaz Central Campus in Karanthur, Kozhikode, during his five-day visit to India, following his participation in the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.

During the visit, the Prime Minister held a fruitful meeting with Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, Grand Mufti of India and Founder of Markaz. They exchanged views on educational exchanges between Markaz and higher education institutions in Malaysia, as well as cooperation in education, culture and academic affairs. The welfare of the Indian community in Malaysia was also discussed.

At a reception held at the Markaz Convention Centre, the Sheikh Abubakr Foundation Excellence Award, instituted to honour distinguished personalities for their contributions to humanitarian service, social reform and educational advancement, was presented to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

This was Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s second visit to Keralam to meet Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad. His first visit to Markaz took place in September 2022, a few weeks before he assumed office as Prime Minister of Malaysia.

In 2023, the Malaysian Government conferred the Hijrah Award, its highest honour for religious scholars, on Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad. In recognition of his six decades of service in teaching Hadith, international Hadith recitation gatherings were organised in Kuala Lumpur under the auspices of the Malaysian Government in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
