Cultural conference held as part of Jamia Markaz ruby jubilee
Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that the attitude and approach of the BJP-led government at the Centre on the triple talaq issue have created a feeling of being discriminated against in the Muslim community.
In his address to the cultural conference organised as part of the Jamia Markaz ruby jubilee at Karanthur on Friday, Mr. Balakrishnan said that the Central government did not treat all religions equally, and also treated a particular religion with indifference.
He said that any action or process of reforming an institution or practice should emerge from the religion itself. No external force should not try to alter or impose changes on religious matters, Mr. Balakrishnan said. On the controversial issue of the Indian Union Muslim League boycotting the conference of the Markaz, Mr. Balakrishnan said that everyone should have the tolerance towards diverse and different perspectives.
He said that the Sunni leader and Chancellor of the Markazu Ssaquafathi Ssunniyya, Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar and the CPI(M) had disagreed on many issues and that the Musliyar had also publicly expressed his opinion on different subjects. However, both treated the differences with mutual respect and tolerance, Mr. Balakrishnan said.
Historian M.G.S. Narayanan inaugurated the cultural conference at Jamia Markaz in the afternoon. A.M. Arif, MLA, Kaithapram Damodaran Namboodiri, Dr. Hussain Randathani and P. Surendran spoke at the meeting.
